HUNTLY NEWS

CROQUET CLUB EVENING The members of the Huntly Croquet Club held a most enjoyable husbands’ evening in the pavilion, the function being very well attended. The evening was spent in games, and euchre was also played. Competition winners were Mr W. Speirs, Mrs R. Hogg, Mr Owen Williams, Mr W. C. Davies, Mrs H. T. Watkins and Mr E. Smith. The ladies’ euchre prize was won by Mrs W. D. Partis, and the men’s prize was won by Mr H. A. Clinch. Mr W. Ainscough Snr. won the prize for the winner of the most games. The committee responsible for the programme were Mesdames H. T. Watkins, W. C. Davies and T. Chisholm. Among those present were:—Mesdames T. Chisholm, R. Hogg. H. T. Watkins, W. C. Davies, W. Speirs, E. Smith, R. Scheon, E. W. Ruston Snr., N. C. Harvey, J. W. Burgess. D. Luke, W. D. Partis, H. A. Clinch, R. Cunningham, L. Hogg, R. Clinch, W. Ainscough, Snr., Miss Ainscough, Messrs D. Luke, H. T. Watkins, H. A. Clinch, R. Clinch, E. Smith, T. Chisholm, W. C Davies, W. Speirs, VV. Ainscough, O. Williams.

MASONS ENTERTAIN

A most enjoyable evening was spent in the Huntly Masonic refectory when the members of the lodge held a “ladies’ night.” The time passed happily with dancing, indoor bowls and items, music for the dancing being supplied by Messrs H. Meadows and J. Roberts. Mr A. Carlton was an efficient master of ceremonies. The winners of the novelty dances w r ere Mr and Mrs H. P. Morris and Mrs E. H. Todd and Mr D. Fletcher.

A programme of songs by Mrs R. L. Cowie, Messrs R. L. Cowie and M. Penman, violin solos by Mr J. Roberts, and a duet by Mr and Mrs R. L. Cowie, were much appreciated. Mr H. Meadow’s was the accompanist for the evening. Among those present wTere:—Mesdames F. Begbie (Waerenga), A. B. Jameson, R. L. Cowde, Vowless (Te Kauwhata), H. P. Morris, M. Lynch (Ohinewai), Jones (Te Hoe), H. J. Challenor, R. Shand, Hill, E. H. Todd, Littlejohn (Taupiri), Ginn, Gibson, T. Cox, J. B. Sanders, D. Fletcher, Taylor (Auckland), W. Evans (Kimihia), H. Broadbent, R. P. Whitton.
