MR ALGIE DECLINES

WAIPAWA CANDIDATURE (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WAIPAWA, Sunday Invitations from prominent farmers and business men in the Waipawa electorate to Mr R. M. Algie, of Auckland, to stand as a candidate for the Waipawa seat have been declined. Mr A. Wallace, organiser of the New Zealand Freedom Association in Hawke’s Bay said Mr Algie had regretfully declined, as he felt it in the best interests of the electorate, especially as there already appeared to be available many capable local residents of moderate political opinion. The number offering for selection as the National Party candidate has been narrowed from nine to six. These nominations will go before the selection committee of the party’s delegates on Tuesday night. The six names are:—Messrs D. H. Campbell, C. R. Edgecombe, C. G. E. Harker, G. F. McHardy, J. D. Ormond, and R. Tapper.
