FEARS OF BELGIANS

NEW GERMAN COMMISSIONER INSTALLED AT BRUSSELS (Official Wireless) (Received October 12, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 11 The German announcement that a German Commissioner has been installed in the Hostel de Ville at Brussels has given rise to fears among Belgians in London that M. Van de Meulebroack, Burgomaster at Brussels, may have suffered or be on the point of suffering the same fate as his predecessor of 1914, the late Burgomaster Adolphe Max. who was deported to Germany because he refused to bow to the demands of the invader. The announcement, together with other information that has been received. creates the impression that a strained situation exists in the Belgian capital. The British Minister of Health, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, in a Parliamentary reply, announced that 30,000 school children had been evacuated from London since September G and 20,000 mothers and children since September 22.
