TEMPORARY BUILDING
ROTORUA HOSPITAL NEEDS RELIEF BEFORE MAJOR SCHEME Although the erection of a new hospital in Rotorua is within sight as a result of arrangements for the lease of the site, the lack of accommodation is so acute that the Waikato Hospital Board has decided to erect temporary accommodation until the new building is completed. The cost of the temporary building will be £I9OO and it will provide accommodation for 27 beds. The work will commence as soon as departmental approval has been secured. In reply to a question at the meeting of the board yesterday from Mr D. B. Livingstone, the board’s architect, Mr J. H. Edgecumbe, stated that an effort would be made to erect the temporary building of material which would have a good resale value. When the major building scheme at Rotorua was completed the temporary structure would be of no use. Portion For Road Reserve Approval was given by the board ’to a request from the Rotorua Borough Council that in arranging the lease of the new hospital site, provision should be made for a small portion of the reserve on the north and west to be set aside for road widening purposes. No objection to the proposal was made by the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt. The board adopted plans for alterations and additions to the eye ward and side ward at the Waikato Hospital, which will be converted into an X-ray room to house the new plant. Provision will also be made for dressing rooms. The estimated cost of the scheme was stated to be £950. Plans will be forwarded to the Director-General of Health for approval.
