MEAT AGREEMENT
SETTLEMENT SHORTLY NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE (By Telegraph —Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday Negotiations were continuing between the United Kingdom and New Zealand Governments covering the meat purchase agreement tor the 1940-41 production season, said the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, in reply to an urgent question by Mr W. J. Poison (Opposition— Stratford) in the House of Representatives this morning concerning the negotiations. It was therefore impossible at this juncture, added Mr Nash, to state what final quantities would be included in the agreement. However, discussions had now reached a conclusive stage and an early settlement was expected. Mr Poison had called attention to the completion of the Australian purchase agreement, which in the opinion ot their producers was satisfactory, as it provided for increased quantities. Mr Nash, referring to this portion of the question, said the Government was aware that Australian press reports stated that a successful conclusion of the Australian agreement had been reached, but had received no official confirmation.
