HAPPINESS CLUB

“JOAN” VISITS NGARUAWAHIA The Town Hall, Ngaruawahia, presented an attractive scene yesterday on the occasion of the visit of “Joan” of IZB and members of the Auckland Happiness Clubs to officially open the newly-formed Ngaruawahia branch. In a happy speech “Joan” said how pleased she was to open another branch of the Happiness Club. In the afternoon, the Mayor, Mr R. Eyre, introduced “Joan” to a large attendance of members. The aims and objects of the club were outlined by “Joan.” A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs C. Quintal for the organisation of the Ngaruawahia branch. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Ngaruawahia president, Mrs C. Quintal; vice-president, Mrs K. Anderson; secretary, Mrs A. G. Weld; treasurer, Mrs J. T. Holt; committee to be chosen from the following nominations, Mesdames J. Cryer, F. Abbott, Johnstone, Moore, Knighton, F. Chaney, J. McCauley, H. Snowden, A. Lambert, Ogle, Mason, W. Matangi, Barakat, Mills, Robinson. “Joan” and Mrs C. Quintal were the recipients of beautiful bouquets and Mesdames A. G. Weld, J. T. Holt and K. Anderson received beautiful shoulder sprays. Telegrams of congratulations were read from various Happiness Club branches in the Auckland district. The afternoon closed with the singing of the Happiness theme song, and items by Mrs Rodgers, and a member from Auckland.
