ORPHANAGE APPEAL
£234 IN HAMILTON Yesterday’s street appeal on behalf of the provincial orphanages resulted in the sum of £234 7s 6d being collected in Hamilton. Mrs H. C. Ross, who was in charge of the local appeal, said this morning that the result considerably exceeded the expectation of the committee, and was highly satisfactory in view of the numerous appeals previously made by the various patriotic bodies. RESULT IN TE AWAMUTU (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Friday The combined appeal for the orphanages was made in Te Awamu.il and district yesterday instead of today, as the local organisers considered that Thursday was the better day. All religious denominations took part, with the result that the sum of £162 4s 6d was handed to the secretary. Rev. M. G. Sullivan. House-to-house collections were made and boxes were in use in the
business portion of the town. The country districts were also canvassed.
