INDO-CHINA CRISIS

CHINESE TROOPS READY COMPENSATION DEMAND FRENCH=JAPANESE PACT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 27 The Central Daily News says Chinese troops are preparing to enter Indo-China. The Chinese Foreign Office has instructed its Hanoi Consulate to arrange the urgent evacuation of Chinese from Indo-China and also to negotiate compensation for all Chinese losses as a result of the Hanoi agreement. The Japanese Foreign Office has released a joint French-Japanese communique relative to the IndoChina agreement, in which it is stated: “The Japanese Government has given the French Government an assurance that, it will respect the rights and interests of France in East Asia, especially the territorial integrity of French Indo-China and French sovereignty over all parts of the Union of Indo-China, while the French Government has agreed to afford the Japanese Army and Navy special facilities which are necessary for the prosecution of the latter’s military operations.” A message from Chungking says minor clashes are taking place between Chinese and Japanese forces in Kwangsi on the Indo-China border.

It is reported from Kwangsi that Japanese casualties in the Dongdang clash were 1000. A message from Tokio states that Japanese forces, which went to French Indo-China by sea, have landed near Haiphong. This is stated to be in accordance with the terms of the Hanoi agreement. Clash Inevitable A message from Tokio says the spokesman of the Japanese Foreign Office, Mr Suma, commenting on the embargo, said: “ Our views on these discriminatory actions are well known. We must be patient until the last moment.” The Asahi Shimbun states:— “ A clash between Japan and America now seems inevitable.”
