MILITARY BALI
FAREWELL TO REGIMENT MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION I To the pessimists who gloomily predict failure for balls held during wartime, the Military Ball 'organised by the Waikato Regimental and Hamilton Municipal Band to farewell the Waikato Regiment on its departure to camp, must have proved a distinct surprise, as success attended this function in every way. It is seldom that the capacity of the Regent Ballroom is as severely taxed as it was last night by the very large attendance of enthusiastic dancers, prominent among whom were the men in khaki and those in the colourful red coats of the bandsmen. In keeping with the times and the nature of the function, the decorations had been confined solely ito festoons of flags and pennants while on the supper balcony the I tables were gay with spring flowers, i which had been cleverly arranged to form the colours, red, white and blue. Owing to the unavoidable absence of Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs E. M. Mackersey, the duties of host and hostess were carried out by Captain J. M. McWhannel and Mrs McWhannel. The latter, who was wearing a charming gown of midnight blue mousseline, was presented on her arrival with a lovely bouquet by Mrs A. E. Savage, who was in a gown of black georgette and lace. Excellent dance music was provided by the Regent Dance Band assisted by the Regimental Band’s old-time dance orchestra, the almost continuous music being much appreciated by the dancers.
