MODERN TREND
ART EXHIBITION BY MRS YOUNGHUSBAND j Much interest has Deen created in : Hamilton by the exhibition, a’, the residence of Mr James TreOar, (f ! a collection of paintings by Mrs Adele Younghusband, who will be i well remembered in this town as an j extremely talented artiste. She has recently returned from spending three years in Melbourne and Sydj ney, where she took the opportunity j of studying all the latest in modern ! art under the renowned artist, Mr j George Bell, of Melbourne, who is • himself a student of the famous i modern art master, Mr lan McNab.
Mrs Younghusband made a special study of cubist, surrealist and abstract art, and the collection contains many striking examples of this modern mode of painting, which is rapidly coming to the fore in Australia, where more and more artists are seeking a new medium of expression.
Mrs Younghusband, who has held various “one-man shows” in Melbourne and Sydney, and who has exhibited with the Victoria Artists’ Society and the Contemporary Art Society in Melbourne, commented on the interest evinced in art and the encouragement given to artists in Australia. “In Melbourne alone, she said, “there are three and four shows each week, and they are always filled.” An example of this interest was the bringing to Australia by the Melbourne Herald of a very fine collection of modern art from the Continent, this giving artists the opportunity of judging, by comparison, the merits of their own work. Mrs Younghusband intends to reside in New Zealand, and to carry on her work on these modem lines, through which she feels she can best express herself.
