GAMING CHARGE
FINE OF £5 IMPOSED Charged with conducting a common gaming house in Commerce Street, Frankton, Aubrey Edward Graham, of Hamilton, appeared on remand before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, to-day. Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson said that a police consta’/le placed two bets with Graham on the morning of September 14 and was shown a “double” chart for the Avondale races. When the premises were searched no betting material was 1 found and defendant said he had taken the bets only to oblige a cusi tomer. | Mr N. S. Johnson, appearing for ! defendant, who pleaded guilty, said \ that Graham was in the betting busiI ness only in a small way and did not ‘ even have a telephone on the premises. He had not previously been before the court. Graham was fined £5 and costs.
