PLEASANT AFTERNOON

GIRL GUIDES COMMITTEE A very pleasant afternoon, organised by the committee of the First Hamilton Company of the Girl Guides was held in the St. Peter’s Hall, yesterday afternoon, in ordei to raise funds to send a girl guide to the camp to be held in the Waitakeri Ranges in the near future. The hall and afternoon tea tables had been charmingly arranged with rhododrondrons, primroses and freesias, and the proprietors of a well-laden stall carried on a brisk business throughout the afternoon Songs by Mrs Bradley and Mrs D S. B. Heather, elocutionary items by Miss Shirley Burton and a pianoforte duet by Misses Peggy Senior and Val Conradi were thoroughly enjoyed by an appreciative audience. The accompanists were Mrs L. C. Barton and Mrs Spragg. The guests were received by the president, Mrs A. F. Meldrum, who was wearing a teal ensemble and a matching teal hat. The committee present were:— Mesdames S. L. Paterson (secretary), C. H. Holloway, J. H. Lowe, E. C. Day, P. Honeybun, E. Powell, R. I. Rowntree, P. Nairn, Ballentyne, and E. Wilson.
