lIAPPY DANCE The Oddfellows’ Hall, Ngaruawahia, presented a gay scene on Saturday evening, when a dance to raise funds for the Catholic Church was held. Music was supplied by Mr Matangi’s orchestra and the master of ceremonies was Mr J. O’Kane. A novelty ■waltz was won by Miss D. Friel and Mr J. Cairns. Among those present were:—Mesdames J. Cubitt, ENTERTAINMENT OF SOLDIERS A happy dance was held in th» Anglican Parish Hall on Saturday evening, by members of the Ngaruawahia Happiness Club. Thera was a large number of soldiers present, the evening being held for their entertainment. Music was supplied by Mrs J. T. Holt with extras played by Mrs F. Abbott. Mr J. T. Holt was master of ceremonies. Among those present were:—Mesdames C. Quintal, V. Muller, J. T. Holt, A. Lambert, K. Duxfield, A. C. Weld, Skewes, G. Wilmot, Findlater, F. Abbott, J. Shaw, Viney, Luxted F. Chaney. Misses R. Abbott, M. Findlater, J. Harrison, A. Douglas ((Auckland), M. Oliver, L. Shaw, L. Moore GIRL GUIDES AND BROWNIES A girl guide and brownie rally was held on the Point, Ngaruawahia, on Saturday afternoon. The occasion was the first official visit te Ngaruawahia of the Auckland Provincial Commissioner, Mrs Watson. Accompanied by Commissioner E. A. Allen, of Huntly, Mrs Watson was met by the colour party and escorted to the Ngaruawahia Brownie Pack in charge of Brown Owl Babs Ensor. A welcome song was sung, and after inspection a further inspection of the girl guides was carried out. The guide packs present were from Huntly, the newly-formed Maori pack from Rakamunga, Ohinewai, Taupiri and Ngaruawahia. The Provincial Commissioner then spoke a few words of appreciation of the work the guides were doing and read a message to them from Princess Mary. Twelve new guides were enrolled and the remainder of the afternoon was spent in a treasure-hunt and games. They were later entertained to afternoon tea by the guide committee.

COMING-OF-AGE PARTY Mr and Mrs W. Forrest gave an enjoyable dance in the Masonic Hall, Ngaruawahia, on Saturday evening to celebrate the coming-of-age of their son John. Music was supplied by Mr Meadows, with extras played by Miss May Brennan and Miss Bernice Sampson. Mr D. Sampson was master of ceremonies. Enjoyable items were given by Mr J. Luke, Mr C. Hill, Mr J. Forrest and Mr W. Forrest. Mr Miller proposed the health of the guest-of-honour and he was accorded musical honours. Mr J. Forrest suitably responded. Among those present were:—Mesdames W. Forrest, wearing delphinium blue silk velvet; H. Donald, gentian blue georgette; Kerr (Glen Massey), floral matalasse; Donald, black silk romaine; J. Luke, black ring velvet; Miller, navy satin; Lees (Glen Massey), floral taffeta; I Fairey, pastel pink appliqued georgette.
