THIS HETERODOX WAR

(To the Editor) Sir.—There are many who will tell us that this war is a “capitalistic” war, a war for the privileged classes. The fact is that we are in a “people’s war” for the first time in many decades. If we look back prior to 1940, we notice that the war was conducted to protect property. The property classes backed Adolf. Hence the weakness of Mr Chamberlain’s regime. It was the representatives of the workers, the Labour Party under Mr Attlee, who passed the resolution in the House of Commons demanding the call of Mr Winston Churchill to the Premiership.

Upon this action, the whole basis of war was altered. It became a war of the masses, and ideas and principles became the motives for fighting.—l am, etc.,

LORD HEE HEE Hamilton, September 20. 1
