NATURAL SOCIALISM
(To the Editor) Sir, —I was very much interested in reading Mr T. E. McMillan’s letter under the heading Natural Socialism, but, as I said, the greater part of his letter is quite irrelevant to the point at issue, namely, ending the Labour and Capital war. The continuance of this war, or its replacement by an alliance, seems to me an entirely separate question to that of ground rents. Even with Mr McMillan’s proposed reform in operation, the war between Capital and Labour would go on as bitterly as ever. The question of land tenure has no bearing on this problem, though it may have a bearing on the general economic welfare of the community. I support the individualistic plan of life against the slave system of Socialism, but I object strongly to the plunder of the community by either excessive profits or ground rents.— I am, etc., A. WARBURTON. Ngaruawahia, September 19.
