LADIES’ NIGHT

CAMBRIDGE ORPHANS’ CLUB MANY VISITORS PRESENT (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday Ladies’ Night of the Cambridge Orphans’ Club on Wednesday was a very successful gathering. There was a large attendance of members and lady guests, as well as visitors from the Hamilton, Te Awamutu, Ohaupo, Te Aroha and Matamata clubs. The presence of Colonel A. E. Loach, of Christchurch, the honorary secretary of Association of Kindred Savage and Orphans’ Clubs, added greatly to the pleasure of the function. Early in the evening VicePresident H. A. Watkins, who had been installed as chairman, handed over the gavel to Colonel Loach, who carried on the proceedings in a very happy manner.

It was a great pleasure to visit the Waikato again, said Colonel Loach. Orphandom stood for good fellowship, and he could say that he now had many friends in Cambridge. The value of the Kindred Clubs’ Association was stressed by Colonel Loach, who said those who were members of an affiliated orphans’ club were members of any other affiliated club in New Zealand. Arrangement of Tour Colonel Loach extended his thanks to Bro. C. A. Finch, of Cambridge, the South Auckland representative on the association, for his efforts in arranging the official tour of Waikato clubs. The President, Bro. G. E. Haydon, announced that the season would conclude at the end of the month, when visitors would be present from Onehunga. Items were contributed as follows: Club’s orchestra, conducted by Bro. M. Richardson, overtures and marches; Bro. G. Wheeler (Hamilton), songs; Bro. M. Richardson, violin; Bro. G. T. Newsome (Matamata), recitals; Miss June Maisey, songs; Bros. C. A. Finch, J. S. Archer and S. Holdgate, sketch; Bro. K. P. Eade (Hamilton), songs; Miss Dorothy Paterson (Hamilton), recitations; Bro. H. W. Wood (Hamilton), songs; B. Peace (Hamilton), monologues. _______________
