FINE OF £3O IMPOSED
INTOXICATED MOTORIST CASE IN TE AROHA (Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Thursday A fine of £3O was imposed upon a farmer, Kenneth Walter Farmer, in the Te Aroha Police Court when he appeared to face the charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car. His license was cancelled for 12 months. Messrs G. Hedge and J. A. Hepburn, J.’sP., were on the Bench. Constable W. Monson stated that Farmer and a companion were seen by the police entering a stationary car while obviously under the influence of liquor. The men were arrested and medical evidence later proclaimed both men to be in an unfit state to drive. Thirteen large bottles of beer were found in the rear of Farmer’s car. Farmer, who pleaded guilty and was represented by Mr F. E. Burns, explained through counsel that he was not driving at the time of his arrest, nor had he the key of the car in his possession. The Bench, however, took a serious view of the charge as Farmer had been convicted previously on a similar charge. Farmer’s companion, a first offender, was fined £1 and costs on being charged with drunkenness. Farmer agreed to take out a prohibition order.
