U.S.A. PRESIDENCY
SUPPORT FOR MR WILKIE STIMULATION OF ACTIVITY DESIRE TO AID BRITAIN (United Tress Asn.—Tier. Tel. Copyright) NEW YORK, Sept. 19 The traditionally Democratic New York Times, which supported President Roosevelt in 1932 and 1936, editorially announces that it is supporting the Republican candidate for the Presidency, Mr Wendell Wilkie, because he is more able to carry out the defence programme and stimulate economic and industrial activity. In addition, a third term for Mr Roosevelt would mean the shattering of the Democratic tradition. The New York Times adds that both Mr Wilkie and Mr Roosevelt are aware of the danger to the United States and both desire to aid Britain.
