HARDY PIONEER

FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA The spirit of progress is shared by Mrs Jane Pope, of Ulster Street, Hamilton, who, after 81 years of residence in New Zealand, hopes to fly to Australia next month for a holiday. From Auckland she will travel in a Tasman Airways flying-boat, and she expects to arrive in Sydney in time to celebrate her 85th birthday on October 27. This mode of travel is not new to Mrs Pope, who enjoyed a trip in an aeroplane several years ago. when she flew from Palmerston North to Blenheim and from Nelson to Wellington. So impressed was she then by this faster, more comfortable means of transport that Mrs Pope decided to fly to Australia.
