SUCCESSFUL DANCE

AEROPLANE FUND BENEFITS An outstanding success was the dance organised by the Te- Awamutu Women’s Auxiliary Volunteer Corps in the Town Hall on Saturday evening in aid of the aeroplane fund appeal. The hall was artistically decorated with palms and flowering currant and bowls of daffodils, marigolds and pink camellias lent a vivid touch of colour to the stage. The supper had been completely donated by members of the corps, and the local shopkeepers and others, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Bridge and euchre had. been organised in the council room by Mesdames H. C. Rainey, O. O’Brien and F. Brooks, and there was a large number of players. The winners of the bridge were Mrs S. Houston and Mr Gee, and Mrs Warner held the top score in euchre. Among those playing were Mesdames Montefiore, S. J. Nobes, Bluck, H. Burcell, C. G. Downes, J. B. Robertson, Winner, Martin Tims, J. B. Hutchinson, H. C. Rainey, O’Brien, F. Brooks, Vallance, Marsh, S. Houston, N. Goodall, R. Mexted (Te Kawa), W. Hopping (Te Kawa), W. Tucker, L. S. Armstrong, Chestnut (Te Kawa), Jourdain. Misses Hayward, D. Moir, E. Scarf. The Dance Music was supplied by the Merrymakers’ orchestra and extras were contributed by Mesdames K. Parish and A. R. Kay. After supper Mrs A. R. Kay, the 0.C., on behalf of the corps, thanked the many patrons for their attendance and all those who had helped towards the success of the function either by donation of goods or services.

Woods, black satin, coloured belt; L. Norrie (Tokanui), shaded mauve organdi; J. Ferguson, black satin beaute and tulle; P. Fowler (Otorohanga), cyclamen taffeta; M. Crook, green watered taffeta; M. Burns, teal blue taffeta; L. Owen, black baron crepe, white embroidered; M. Adams, green georgette; M. McGechie, rose pink chiffon; S. Hastie, apple green taffeta; C. Montefiore, pale blue georgette; M. Macky, fuchsia embossed taffeta; M. Anderson, green taffeta; P. Giles, cyclamen striped taffeta; M. Gray, black velvet; M. Shell, sea green taffeta; M. Sims, Nile green crepe; I. Farrell, Marina blue taffeta; N. Farrell, cyclamen georgette; J. Middlebrook, Nile green chiffon and flowers to match.
