BIG AMERICAN BOMBERS ALLEGATIONS BY SENATORS PURCHASES BY BRITAIN (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) NEW YORK, Sept. 16 The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that two isolationist Senators, Messrs B. C. Clark (Democrat —Missouri) and R. D. Holt (Democrat —Virginia), allege that President Roosevelt is negotiating for the transfer of half the United States’ 59 “ flying fortress ” bombers to Britain, in addition to torpedoboats and bomb sights. The British Ambassador, Lord Lothian, commented: “ I wish it were true.” A message from Detroit says the British Armaments Purchasing Board has awarded the Packard organisation an order for 6000 Rolls Royce motors at a cost of 125,000,000 dollars. The United States Department has placed orders for military aircraft valued at 144,000,000 dollars.
