RELIEF OF DISTRESS
BRITAIN’S RAID VICTIMS BIG SUM IN AUSTRALIA (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright' MELBOURNE, Sept. 16 The sum of £130.000 has been subscribed by Victorians since last Thursday for the relief of distress among Britain’s air-raid victims. Organisers of the fund said today that money was still liberally pouiing in. A collection taken up by one group ol' theatres on Saturday night amounted to £IOOO. Suburban and municipal councils are considering a plan to add one penny to the rates and give the proceeds to the fund. All newspapers have opened funds. The Argus has already raised £15.000 and the Herald £7OOO. The Lord Mayor of Sydney yesterday launched a fund in Sydney on behalf of the victims of the German bombing of Great Britain, the aim of which is £250.000. Gifts immediately forthcoming brought tiie day’s total to £15.000.
