REMARKABLE RISE
OUTPUT OF CHEESE CAMBRIDGE DAIRY COMPANY SUPPLIERS’ FINE EFFORT (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday The secretary of the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company, Mr E. J. F. Kennedy, has advised that during August the butterfat supplied for the manufacture of cheese was 170 per cent more than for August of last season. The increase amounts to 88 tons of cheese. This position is regarded as very satisfactory, and if the rate of increase is maintained the company should contribute its full proportion of the 15,000 extra tons of aheese requested by the Imperial Government l'rcm New Zealand. The increase is a clear indication of the fine effort that is being made by suppliers in the Cambridge district to answer the call of Britain. The general increase in butterfat supplied to the company for both butter and cheese manufacture last month was 28.63 per cent above last year’s corresponding figure. The company began manufacturing cheese a fortnight earlier than in the previous season, and the increase is made possible by the switch-over of a number of suppliers from butter to cheese. This position followed meetings held in Cambridge when the British Government’s request for an additional 15,000 tons of cheese this season was notified. Objective Assured Mr C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, said this morning that his company had experienced a very substantial increase in cheese manufacture, due to the very favourable spring and the big change-over of suppliers. Indications were that the Waikato would reach its cheese objective this season.
