LEAGUE ACTIVITIES
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The League of Wives and Mothers of ex-servicemen and men of the fighting forces recently held its fortnightly meeting in the Hamilton Citizens’ Band room, when there was a large attendance of members. Mrs D. I. Gate was in the chair and welcomed all present, several new members being enrolled. Those who had acted as hostesses were thanked for their work in catering for, and entertaining the large number of soldiers who had been the guests of the league during the week-ends. The social part of the meeting was much enjoyed, Mrs Philps and Mrs Ramsay being the prize-winners. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. The next meeting will be held on October 1, and all soldiers’ wives and mothers are welcome. Farewell to Member The league held a social afternoon in honour of Mrs A. J. White, who is leaving the district to take up residence in Rotorua. There was a large attendance of members and friends. Mrs White, in her remarks, said how much she had enjoyed working with the league and extended good wishes for the future. Mrs Gate expressed her appreciation of the work that Mrs White had done in the short time she had been in the league, and wished her prosperity in her new home. Mrs White was handed a gift from the members. Songs were rendered by Mesdames Elvey and Hall, and Miss Joy Rowe, and members of the P. and T. Women’s Association staged an amusing play. These items were all much appreciated. Community singing was enjoyed, and afternoon tea brought a pleasant function to a close.
