TREE PLANTING

SUCCESS IN HAMILTON MORE THAN 5000 THIS SEASON The announcement that more than 5000 trees had been planted in Hamilton this season as the result of the Centennial Tree Planting scheme was made by Mr W. H Paul at a meeting of the Hamilton Domain Board last night. Of these trees about 1500 had been planted at the lake and about three-quarters of them on Domain land. Except for about 350, the trees planted were all native specimens. The following plantings were carried out in connection with the Centennial scheme:—Waikato Hospital Nurses, 200; Hamilton Borough Council, 12; Hamilton Domain Board, 9; Waikato Hospital Board, 21; Women’s Division, Farmers’ Union, 12; Women’s Institutes, 20; Soldiers’ Mothers and Wives, 75; Hamilton Headmasters’ Association, 20; Hamilton High School, 479; Hamilton Technical College, 600' Hamilton West School, 369; Melville School, 66; Hamilton East School, 500; Waikato Winter Show Rural School, 41; Whitiora School, 650; Fairfield School, 260; Hillcrest School, 181; Frankton School, 460; Forest Lake School, 240; Hamilton East Convent, 280; Marist Brothers School, 145; Frankton Convent, 138 and 66 liquid ambers planted on the school’s own account; Te Rapa School, 60. Other trees were planted by private individuals.
