MAORI HOSTEL
MORE FUNDS REQUIRED COUNTY COUNCIL DECLINES With about £IOO still required to secure the full Government £ for £ subsidy of £1350 for the erection of a Maori Hostel in Hamilton, the Waikato Maori Hostel Committee has appealed to local authorities for contributions. When the matter came before the Waikafo County Council today Mr R. G. Young moved that the council should adhere to its previous decision not to make donations in view of its limited funds. All would admit, however, that the present call was an humane one, he said.
The chairman, Mr J. A. Sampson, stated that the council had not yet contributed to the hostel fund. He asked Mr Young to consider a small donation.
Mr Young declined however, stating that the Government should be called upon to increase its subsidy. The resolution declining to contribute was passed.
