TRANSFER OF DESTROYERS
TURNING POINT IN WAR OPINION IN AUSTRALIA (United Press Assn.—Elec. Te!. Copyright) ADELAIDE, Sept. 6 The Prime Minister, Mr R. G. Menzies, addressing a gathering of 600 leading citizens here yesterday, described the transfer of 50 American destroyers to Britain together with the leasing of British naval and air bases in the Atlantic zone to the United States, as the most important event of recent months. He added that it might very well mean a turning point in the war and the defeat of the enemy. Mr Menzies warned his hearers not to expect “some kind of full-blooded alliance between Australia and America any day.”
