FARMERS’ PETROL
PROCEDURE C RITICISED FOOTBALL TEAMS SUPPLIED The complaint that football teams were supplied with benzine to visit towns 40 miles away was made by Mr G. R. La wry at a meeting of the Waikato Sub-Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, when exception was taken to the action of the Oil Fuel Controller in arbitrarily cutting down farmers’ allocation of benzine without consulting the users concerned. It was alleged that a wholesale reduction was made in farmers’ supplies, and that adjustments were made only when complaints were entered. The attitude of the controller seemed to be that where there were , operators on the road, farmers would not be permitted to use their own trucks, said the chairman, Mr G. T. Crawley. All applications from farmers for increased supply were given fair consideration. The meeting decided to ask the controller not to make cuts in farmers’ benzine supplies without prior investigation.
