PARTY FROM BRITAIN
WOMEN AND CHILDREN TO STAY IN DOMINION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday A party of about 30 women and children from Britain arrived at New Plymouth in a liner last night to stay in New Zealand for the duration of the war. Many are New Zealanders who have left their husbands in Britain. There were 151 women and children, some of whom were babies of a few months, on board the ship when she left Britain, but about 120 left the ship in Australia. The remainder disembarked at New Plymouth for various destinations in the Dominion. These reported an uneventful voyage except for one time a few days before escorting ships left the convoy, when the passengers were ordered below. (They saw nothing, but believed a submarine had been sighted, for depth-charges were dropped.
