ESCAPE OF CONVICTS
WARDEN KILLED IN FIGHT MAN-HUNT IN PROGRESS GIRLS HELD AS HOSTAGES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) NEW YORK, Sept. 4 A message from Little Rock Arkansas, says at least 35 convicts, most with long-term sentences, escaped from the State prison farm after a gunfight in which a warden was killed and several convicts wounded. At present they are scattered over Southern Arkansas and Northern Louisiana, kidnaoping motorists and fighting peace officers. One group, headed by a murderer, kidnapper and burglar, is racing over country roads in Louisiana with two 16-year-old girls and their 17-year-old boy friend as hostages, hotly pursued by the police. Five of the convicts were recaptured, but the reported leader of the prison break is not among them.
