CREMATORIUM REQUESTED
PROPOSAL FOR HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSION A request that the Hamilton Borough Council consider the establishment of a crematorium in Hamilton was received at a meeting of the council last night when a letter was received from the Hamilton Rationalist Association. The writers said that local Rationalists were strongly in favour of cremation and would be pleased if the council would give consideration to the matter. Mr C. Croall moved that the matter be referred to the works committee. “ This would mean the raising of a loan, and I do not think we would get it at present,” said the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro. “We have everything ready to go ahead when the opportunity offers. The matter has been under consideration for 10 or 12 years.” “ I would like to see a crematorium in Hamilton,” said Mr F. C. House, “ but at present I think it is a luxury expenditure.” The letter was received and it was decided to advise the Rationalist Association of the position.
