“3620 GERMAN PLANES BRITAIN’S GOOD POSITION ITALY’S HEAVY LOSSES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 5, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 4 The Air Ministry told the Associated Press that from the outbreak of war to September 3, 1940, the verified German air losses in all campaigns except Poland, totalled 3620. It is believed. the number wouid be nearly doubled if planes badly damaged and not likely to reach their bases were added. British losses everywhere, except an the Middle East, were 1045.

Germany, since the outbreak to September 3, 1940, had lost 1500 bombers and fighters in attacks against Britain, 1460 of which since June 18. British losses in the battle for Britain were 369 fighters, but 175 pilots had been saved.

Italy, after its entry into the war to August 31, had lost 131 planes and probably 200 with the destruction of planes on the ground. The British losses in the Middle East up tc August 31, were 30.

Since June 10 the Royal Air Force had bombed aoout 500 separate targets on the Continent, of which 200 were in Germany. The raiJs totalled over 1500.
