OVA AND FRY PRODUCTION (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The unusually large production of trout ova and fry this year has caused satisfaction among officers of the Fisheries Department and acclimatisation societies undertaking the work. Congratulations were extended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society on producing at its hatchery 3,000,000 fry. The Minister said further encouraging reports on the collection of trout ova had come from the State I hatcheries at Turangi and Rotorua, j Although the hatchery season was i far from completed, up to August ;20 the department had collected j 8,464.000 ova. The department had I supplied or was in process of supplying 2,980,000 ova to. societies. Already 2,238,000 fry had been liberated in various parts of the Rotorua acclimatisation district. The full hatchery capacity was now being devoted to the rearing of further fry.
