INQUEST OPENED
AUCKLAND AIR CRASH INQUIRY BEING HELD (By Telerrapn.—press Association) AUCKLAND, Wednesday Evidence of identification was heard today when the city coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, opened the inquest on Pilot-Officer Goldstone, the victim of Saturday’s air tragedy. Squadron-Leader R. Kirkup said that Pilot-Officer Goldstone was 21 years of age and had been three weeks at the Hobsonville air base. When he took off on Saturday he was in good health and spirits and witness had no hesitation in allowing him to go up. An inquiry into the accident is being held at Hobsonville by WingCommander Burrell, SquadronLeader Bolt and Flight-Lieutenant Fisher. A copy of the evidence will be supplied to the police and the inquest will then be resumed.
Pilot-Officer Goldstone’s funeral will take place at Wanganui on Friday.
The condition of Pilot-Officer Le Pine, who was rescued from the plane, is reported by the hospital authorities to be fair.
