HARRY LAUDER’S LOSS
STICK FROM NEW ZEALAND ATTACK ON THE TURAKINA (United Pre-ss Assn.— a Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, Sept. 4 A gift which has been lost to Sir Harry Lauder by the attack on the Turakina by an enemy raider in the Tasman last week is a walking-stick. Captain Laird, master of the ship, told Sir Harry’s nephew, another Harry Lauder, that he had found a beautiful crooked walking stick in New Zealand for the famous Scotch comedian, which he was taking home to him to Strathaven, 15 miles from Glasgow. Harry Lauder, jun., is following in the footsteps of his uncle, in that he is also in the entertainment business. He is assistant director to Noel Markman, of Sydney Argosy Films. Britain iost 69.000 tons of merchant shipping in the week ended August 25-26. Neutral losses amounted to 10,000 tons.
