SHOT INTO SEA
FATE OF GERMAN PLANE NORWEGIAN BOAT’S SUCCESS HITS WITH TRACER BULLETS (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 4, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 3 An Admiralty communique states that a Norwegian motor torpedoboat co-operating with the British naval forces, shot down a German aircraft into the sea. The Norwegian motor torpedoboat was in the vicinity of a merchant vessel when both were attacked by enemy dive-bombers, which were at once engaged and the formation, broken. It was then observed that the aircraft which had unsuccessfully attacked the merchant ship were passing overhead. They were engaged at once, and several hits with tracer bullets were seen. One of the aircraft then sideslipped badly and was seen to be on fire. It succeeded in flattening out but continued to lose height.
It touched the water once, rose a few feet, and then crashed into the sea.
