DEVOTION TO DUTY

REMARKABLE WORK CONFIDENCE IN FUTURE (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 4, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 3 The following message has been sent to the British Fleet: “The Board of the Admiralty wishes to express to the officers and men its sincere appreciation for the devotion to duty and cheerfulness for which the work of the Royal Navy had been remarkable during the past year. “The Fleet has not only demonstrated its fighting spirit in no uncertain manner on every occasion that the enemy has given it an opportunity but the personnel has shown over many months endurance and determination, which has enabled the ships to be maintained at sea for a greater part of the time than had ever been contemplated. “We have many difficult times ahead of us, but with the everincreasing strength of the Fleet we look forward with confidence to the future.”
