PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS

SUITABLE CONTENTS PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE’S WORK A large and representative meeting of the Hamilton Women’s Patriotic Committee was held yesterday afternoon in the Patriotic Rooms, Garden Place, to fully discuss the collection, preparation and dispatch of soldiers’ parcels. The meeting was presided over by Mrs H. C. Ross. Information has been received from the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council that puddings are to-be excluded from the 9930 Christmas gift parcels, which the Auckland Province has undertaken to supply as its quota of the Dominion scheme for members of the New Zealand Division overseas. Puddings already collected will be distributed to units stationed at North Head, Motutapu Island and Narrow Neck camps. The standard contents of the parcels, which have been revised to exclude puddings and make provision for the urgent need of writing materials by the troops in Egypt, are as follows:

1 writing pad, envelopes and pencil. 1 lb. cake. I 1 tin sweets (lib.). 1 lb. shortbread. Cigarettes or pipe tobacco. Small tins N.Z. fruit. 1 handkerchief. 1 toothbrush. 1 tin dentifrice.

In regard to the above a special appeal is made for shortbread packed firmly in 1 lb. tins and securely sealed with adhesive tape. Contributions of any of the above articles and donations must be to hand at the Patriotic Rooms, Garden Place, not later than Thursday, September 12, as there is considerable work to be done on the parcels after the receipt of the goods. It has been considered more satisfactory to have the cake made in bulk, and donations for this purpose will be gratefully received. The quota of parcels for the Waikato zone has been allocated as follows:—Raglan, *200; Huntly, 100: Cambridge, 100; Ngaruawahia, 100; Hamilton, 720; Te Awamutu, 100; Otorohanga, 100; Kawhia, 67; Te Aroha, 100; Morrinsville, 100; Te Kuiti, 100.
