WIMBLEDON CHAMPION
GOING TO CANADA DOROTHY LITTLE’S PLANS (Tirties Air Mail Service) LONDON, July 11 Mrs Dorothy Little, who as Miss Dorothy Round was the queen of British lawn tennis in 1937 and 1935 —she won the Wimbledon Cham* pionships in both these years—is going to Canada next week with her two-year-old son lan, says L. V. Manning in the Daily Sketch Her husband, Doctor Leigh Little, who is now in the Army, insists on her making the trip. “I shall miss my tennis friends, but I shall not give up the game.” Mrs Little told me. “I hope to be able to give help and encouragement to young Canadian players “I may even be able to compete in some of the Canadian tournaments. I am staying with friends in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.” A Disappointment Dorothy will be away for the duration. The news of her departure is particularly disappointing to Midland lawn tennis enthusiasts, for two thousand people were looking forward to seeing her in matches at Boumville, Birmingham, on Saturday. She was to play a singles match with her old friend and close rival Kay Menzies for the Daily Sketch and Red Cross War Funds. Mrs Freda Hammersley, who as Miss Freda James won the Wimbledon doubles in partnership with Dorothy, will, I believe, take her place in the Bournville programme, which includes a full list of star players.
