GALLANT LASCARS
AWARDED BRONZE MEDAL CREW OF AIRCRAFT RESCUED (United Press Assn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 31 Two Lascars and a British mercantile officer were awarded the Bronze Medal for gallantry in saving the lives of the crew of a Royal Air Force bomber which made a forced landing. When the crew of the aircraft was seen it was necessary to put off in a small boat, but rough seas prevented this from reaching the shore. Only one of the aircraft crew was able to swim. In order to rescue the others the Lascars, Valla Pema and Jairam Narrow, accompanied an officer through heavy surf and a strong and dangerous tide and with great difficulty and appreciable risk to themselves brought the airmen to safety.
