FAREWELL AT OHAUPO

STATION MASTER HONOURED A most enjoyable evening was held in the Social Hall, at Ohaupo, on Thursday night, to bid farewell to the stationmaster, Mr Allan Evans and his wife and daughter, who are leaving Ohaupo to reside in Auckland. The president of the Tennis Club, Mr E. Sage, in asking Mr Evans to accept a silver coffee jug from the club and the Patriotic Committee, thanked him for the valuable assistance he had given in having hard courts laid down and also as top player for the A team. A silver serviette ring was also given to Miss Josie Evans. Mr Doug. Mitchell then presented Mr Evans with a hanging mirror and vase with the best wishes and thanks of the railway officers and carriers. A silver teaspoon was presented to Mrs Evans, a past secretary of the Women’s Institute by Mrs Wiley. Community singing was led by Mr W. Smiilie, and items by Mr Boyd, Mr Price, Miss J. Evans, Mr Wiley and Doug. Wiley were enjoyed. The evening concluded with dancing, Mrs Wiley being the pianist.
