DAIRY HERD SALES
SUPPLY CONTROL ORDER NO EFFECT IN WAIKATO The Dairy Supply Control Order, 1940, which came into force on August 19, is said to have had little application in the Waikato. The order is lor the purpose of securing additional production of cheese this season with a view to supplying increased quantities to Britain under the new agreement. However, by the time the order came into force, nearly all dairy clearing sales were over in the Waikato, and the trade is now mainly concerned with dairy heifers. Cancellation of sales of dairy herds is reported from Southland because of the new order. However, the season is later in Southland, and consequently clearing sales would come within the scope ol the order. A clause in the order provides that suppliers to cheese factories shall continue to supply milk lrom not less than substantially the same number ol cows, and shall not transfer any ! part of the supply. There is similar I provision in respect of suppliers to I creameries.
