TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

QUESTION OF POSTPONEMENT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday The question whether the Dominion and local tennis championships for 1940-41 should be postponed because of the war was discussed tonight at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. It was referred to affiliated associations, and will be considered again at the next quarterly meeting of the parent body. The management committee was asked why no ranking list was issued, and replied that owing to the war many players who might otherwise have been ranked had not taken part in tournaments to a sufficient extent for the necessary data to be supplied. All tennis players are to be asked to make a contribution to a fund to purchase a bomber for the Royal Air Force. Mr S. G. McDougall, of the North Otago Association, was elected president. Other officers elected were:— Management committee, Messrs A. G. Henderson, J. A. McGill, H. J. Thompson, H. S. Wilkinson, H. Clay, W. J. Melody, Dr. A. N. Foden; auditor, Mr F. O. Austin; secretarytreasurer, Mr H. F. Bollard; representative on Lawn Tennis Association and International Lawn Tennis Federation, Mr H. F. N. Lee (England) .
