DEATH OF CHILD
STRUCK BY SWING
ACCIDENT AT STEELE PARK Struck on the back of the head by a swing in the children’s playground at Steele Park yesterday afternoon, John David Goble, the three-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Goble, of 29 Albert Street, Hamilton East, received a fractured skull and died in the Waikato Hospital early this morning. The child, who was with an elder brother and other children, was playing near the swings when he either fell or tripped and was caught on the back of the head by one of the swings, which was in motion. He was knocked unconscious and his brother took him home. As Mrs Goble was at the hospital visiting a patient, Mr Goble was called home from his place of business. He put the child to bed, told the elder boy to watch it, and returned to work. The child had not recovered consciousness when the mother returned home and she sent for a doctor, who had him taken to the Waikato Hospital. The child died at 1 a.m. today in hospital. An inquest was opened before Mr F. W. Platts, the district coroner, today. After evidence of identification the inquest was adjourned
