MEETING OF LEAGUE
SOLDIERS’ WIVES AND MOTHERS The fortnightly meeting of the League of Wives and Mothers of exservicemen and men of fighting forces, was recently held in the Citizens’ Bandroom, when there was a large attendance. Mrs D. I. Gate presided and welcomed several new members, who were enrolled. Members who had been an duty at the Soldiers’ Club were thanked, and the report showed that although the men had been on leave, the club had been well patronised. The invitation from the Red Cross for the league to run the shop in Garden Place for one day was accepted and a date was fixed. The hostesses for the Soldiers’ Club for the week-end were arranged. The social part of the afternoon was very entertaining, the artists being Miss Joy Rowe and Miss Kyra Forsyth. The competition was won by Mrs Booth. Afternoon tea brought a busy and pleasant afternoon to a close. The next meeting will be on September 3, when all soldiers’ wives and mothers are welcome.
