CHRISTMAS GIFTS
COMFORTS FOR TROOPS 800 PARCELS FROM HAMILTON APPRECIATION OF SOLDIERS Advice concerning the contents of Christmas parcels for New Zealand troops overseas has been received by the Waikato Patriotic Committee, with the quotas lor the various areas. Hamilton has been allocated 800 parcels and the Waikato 1787 of the 9930 to be sent. Communications received from Egypt recently indicate that the soldiers greatly appreciated the parcels already sent, and the contents of the Christmas packages have been based on the requests received. Christmas puddings will be excluded from the parcels, but each parcel will include: 1 Writing Pad 1 lb Cake 1 Tin Sweets (ilb) 1 lb Shortbread or Gingernuts Cigarettes or Pipe Tobacco Small Tins New Zealand Fruit 1 Handkerchief 1 Toothbrush 1 Tin Dentrifice. All parcels, have to be in Wellington ready for despatch by September 30, and in view of the fact that they will have to be packed here before they are railed, Waikato people are allowed only ten days to find their 1787 parcels. Appeal for Funds Although the time is so short for Hamilton people to provide 800 parcels, the soldiers’ appreciation of the gifts will ensure a prompt response to the appeal. Gifts of the various items to be included in the parcels will be received at the women’s patriotic rooms in Garden Place, while financial donations to purchase parcels will also be received at the rooms. The knowledge that donations will provide the troops with Christmas cheer should result in sufficient funds being collected to complete Hamilton’s quota in plenty of time.
