WAIKATO’S LAST GAME

REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY MATCH WITH THAMES VALLEY GOOD RECORD IN THE PAST When the Waikato Rugby representatives play their final match of the 1940 season tomorrow at the Recreation Ground, Morrinsville, the team will meet Thames Valley, against whom it has established a fine record in the past. In the last six years, at least, Waikato has never been defeated by Thames Valley and during that time it has scored 173 points while having only 34 points scored against it. Interest will be created tomorrow in whether Waikato can maintain this high scoring record in victories against Thames Valley.

The Waikato team chosen for tomorrow’s game is not the strongest in the union, but with the fron| row of the scrum intact it should be’ able to secure a feast of the ball against Thames Valley. If that is achieved the team should have little difficulty in maintaining its record. Thames Valley has already been defeated by Auckland’s second fifteen this season. The representative teams are as follows: Waikato Fullback: D. G. Ensor (Morrinsville). Three-quarters: G. H. Childs (Matamata), A. J. Aitken (Morrinsville), C. Perkins (Hamilton). Five-eighths: J. Everest (Hamilton), W. Carroll (Matamata). Halfback: W. Brown (Matamata). Back row: M. Hewitt (Cambridge). Middle row: W. Warrender (Matamata), A. Thomson (Waipa), M. J. Johnson (Hamilton), C. Satherley (Hamilton). Front row: J. M. Taylor (Taupiri), E. H. Catley (Taupiri), P. J. Farren (Taupiri). Reserves: Backs, G. Howie (Morrinsville), B. Paterson (Hamilton). Forwards: V. Ensor (Morrinsville), T. Munroe (Matamata), W. Walker (Morrinsville). Thames Valley Fullback: Rapana (Hauraki Plains). Three-quarters: L. Wilson (Waihi) R. Miller (Paeroa), W. Bakei (Te Aroha). Five-eighths: Clark (Te Aroha), Woodland (Waihi). Halfback: Furey. Back row: Trembath (Paeroa). Middle row: Walford (Waihi), Kotara (Hauraki Plains), Taylor (Paeroa), Finlay (Waihi). Front row: C. Kneebone (Te j\roha), Heenan (Hauraki Plains), White (Waihi).

Reserves: Backs, Sherman (Te Aroha), McKain, Douglas; forwards, Euckle, Morrison, Duncan, Hampton. Details of the games during the previous six years are as follows: 1934, at Matamata, won, 37-12; 1935, at Thames, won, 30-3; 1936, at Morrinsville, won, 30-3; 1937, at Waihi, won, 19-9; 1938, at Matamata. won, 26-0; 1939, at Te Aroha, won. 31-6. CLARKE CUP RUGBY FRANKTON AND TECHNICAL RAGLAN’S STRONG CHANCES Tomorrow the final series of matches for the Clarke Cup Rugby championship will be played, one game being scheduled for Rugby Park. Frankton will play Technical Old Boys. The local Rugby programme has been reduced as a result of the Waikato representative match being played at Morrinsville. Raglan has a strong chance to win the Clarke Cup this season, despite the fact that the team has played only one game in the series. In all other matches it has won by default and Old Boys has defaulted to the side tomorrow. Only one team is in a position to draw level with Raglan in points, that team being City which will play Taupiri at Taupiri tomorrow. If City is defeated Raglan will win the trophy. If, on the other hand, City defeats Taupiri, a play-off between City and Raglan will become necessary. At the moment each team has six points, Old Boys and Taupiri four each, and Technical Old Boys and Frankton each have two points in the championship. The draw for local games tomorrow, together .with the referee appointments, is as follows: Clarke Cup.—Frankton v. Technical Old Boys, No. 1 Rugby Park, 2.45 p.m. (Mr L. Retter); City v. Taupiri, at Taupiri; Raglan wins by default from Old Boys. Fourth Grade. —One-round competition: Technical Old Boys v. City, No. 1 Rugby Park, 1.30 p.m. (Mr G. Mathers); Old Boys v.
