GUARANTEED PRICE

MOVEMENT FOR INCREASE ASSOCIATION’S SUPPORT Although it was agreed that the Ne\Y Zealand Government should not ask the Imperial Government for a higher price for butter and cheese, members of the South Auckland Dairy Association at a meeting today decided to support; requests for an increase in the guaranteed price to cover recent rises in costs. Mr W. Marshall, chairman of directors of the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, outlined the negotiations that had taken place between representatives of the dairying industry and the Government. It had been agreed, he said, that everything should be done to stabilise costs, but farmers’ costs had risen since the present guaranteed price was fixed. The recent five per cent increase in award wages was regarded by other speakers as one reason why the price to farmers should be increased.
