FAT STOCK SALES EASING IN VALUES SHARP DROP IN BEEF AUCKLAND. Thursday At the Westfield fat stock sales yesterday beef values eased in all sections by 2s per 1001 b. The fall was most noticeable m prices for extra heavy bullocks, the top price for which was nevertheless £l9 15s. There was also a sharp drop in the mutton market. Wethers were quoted to 41s 6d, and ewes to 33s 9d. A full entry of lamb maintained late rates, sales taking place at up to 355. Prices for calves generally were lower. Runners were quoted to £lO, and vealers to £7 15s. Unfinished calves were not wanted by butchers and were definitely cheaper. Pork eased slightly from last week's high levels, the best pig making £3 15s. Baconers held their market at late rates, the best offer being £4 14s. Competition was not so keen and values were easiei by 2s per 1001 b. Extra heavy bullocks showed the drop principally. Cows and heifers also came forward in large numbers, and values eased to the same level. Extra choice ox, £2 per 1001 b.; choice and prime, £1 17s to £1 19s; secondary and plain, £1 13s to £1 15s; extra prime young cow and heifer, £1 11s to £1 15s; choice and prime, £1 8s to £1 10s; ordinary cow beef, £1 5s to £1 7s; extra heavy prime steers, £l7 to £l9 15s; heavy, £l4 10s to £ls 10s; lighter, £l3 5s to £l4; light, £ll 15s to £l2 10s; small and unfinished, £8 10s to £lO 15s; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO to £l2 7s 6d; heavy, £8 10s to £9 10s; lighter, £6 15s to £7 10s; other killable cows, £5 to £6. Sheep.—A heavy yarding proved more than equal to the demand. Values eased considerably on late rates. Extra heavy prime wethers, £2 to £2 Is 6d; heavy, £1 16s to £1 18s 6d; medium, £1 12s to £1 14s 6d; light, £1 8s 6d to £1 11s; plain and unfinished, £1 5s 6d to £1 7s; extra heavy prime young and maiden ewes, £1 10s 6d to £1 13s 9d; heavy, £1 7s 6d to £1 9s; lighter, £1 3s 6d to £1 5s 6d; plain and aged, 17s 6d to £1 Is; others, 5s to 15s.
Lambs.—Lambs were penned in full numbers. Competition was good and late rates were maintained. Extra heavy prime lambs, £1 13s 6d to £1 15s; heavy, £1 10s to £1 12s 6d; medium, £1 6s to £1 8s 6d: lighter, £1 3s 6d to £1 ss; light, £1 to £1 2s; small and plain, 17s 6d to 19s; cull lambs, 15s to 16s 6d. Calves.—There was an increased yarding. The demand was steady, but values generally were easier. Plain and unfinished calves were definitely lower. Runners, £5 5s to £10; heavy vealers, £6 10s to £7 15s;
i medium. £5 to £6 ss; light, £3 15s to j £4 15s; small, £1 to £3 10s; unfinished, j £1 to £2 2s; bobby calves, 5s to 17s. Pigs.—The offering was again ! small, with values for baconers equal .to last week’s. Prices for porkers I eased, while stores realised high rates. Choppers, £2 10s to £4 15s; heavy baconers, £4 6s to £4 14s; medium, £4 Is to £4 ss; light, £3 16s to £3 19s; heavy porkers, £3 12s to £3 15s; medium, £3 to £3 7s; light, £2 12s to £2 16s; small and unfinished, £2 8s to £2 11s; stores, £2 8s to £2 12s; slips, £1 16s to £2 ss; weaners, £1 8s to £1 18s.
