NEW BRIGADES FORMED MECHANISED DIVISIONS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrig-lit) OTTAWA, August 21 Colonel Ralston, the Defence Minister, has announced that in addition to approximately 40,000 troops for overseas, the active service force in Canada at July 14 totalled 114,000, of which 26 companies were veterans in the Home Guard. He added that the permanent active militia totalled 100,731. of which 21.500 were at present in training camps. He announced that authorisation had been given for the formation of an armoured brigade, with 200 tanks and other mechanised units, totalling four battalions: He admitted that the equipment was incomplete, but the prospects were for fairly rapid production of a new type of tank suitable for both training and active service.
